I know living in Colorado, it can sometimes be like a weather roller coaster, but seriously, enough already. The past months have been way too hot. I am not the most up to date on climate change but there is something definitely fishy. Today in my travels, I saw a Ski Press magazine so of course, I grabbed it. One of the captions on the cover stated Global Weirding: It's Getting Hot in Here (written by:Jules Older). I normally pick up magazines to look at the pictures, so for me to actually read something, well I'm not stretching the truth when I say that it's a big deal. This article hit me right in the yarbuls.Months before winter ever pokes it beautiful head out, I start watching ski films and going into the local ski shops. I have dreams of making waist deep powder turns on a freshly tuned board.
We all have fears, some are able to talk about them and others run and hide. Like I said, I am not well versed on global warming so I will let a quote from the article that was placed over a snow covered mountain side tell my fear, "The ski industry should be yelling 'fire' in crowded theaters!" The Ski industry and all those avid skiers who await the first snow will be among the first affected by global warming. Our seasons may be getting shorter storms though possibly larger, they may become fewer and farther between. THAT SUCKS.
I'm not one to tell people what to do or how they should live their lives, half the time I wounder what or how I am to live mine, but I do not want my deep powder turn to only be in my dreams. Growing up near Evergreen State College, I have know a few tree hugging hippies in my day (on top of it I married one, not a greener though, I like a woman with shaved armpits and legs), but they are always talking about taking care of the environment and what we can do to save it. Obviously, I'm not the one to tell anyone what to do on global warming, but there is an organization out there that might, try POW (Protect Our Winters)
I don't know much (I do know that this will sound really really cheesy) but maybe if I can change, maybe we all can change.
